Get School’d
I’m reading Wealth and Poverty of Nations, by Landes.
I read an interesting theory today.
The paradox: Warm countries eat the hottest foods. Where is the sense?
Pepper keeps food in the technology lacking worlds of refrigeration fresh, or at least you can’t taste or smell the rotten parts as much. And when a country doesn’t have a strong winter to keep things frozen, well… there you go. Places I’ve been, Thailand and Mexico, they have hot food….
It’s obvious, but I had never thought about it. I complain that I’m having to read a lot. But I am enjoying it. I still have no aspirations for becoming the next Marx or Weber.
My grandma always used to say to eat hot things in hot weather because eating them will make you sweat without exerting yourself and sweat cools you off. Rotting might make more sense…
